Cyber Security User Awareness Workshop
Requirement: Building a Security-First Culture
Their goals were to:
- Build knowledge and insights that would resonate across all departments, fostering collaboration between technical and non-technical teams.
- Empower their workforce with practical tools to identify cyber security vulnerabilities and actively contribute to the firm’s broader cyber security strategy.
- Build a security-first culture, ultimately to strengthen defences against cyber attacks and mitigate risks, including those posed by social engineering.
Our Solution: Delivering Cyber Security User Awareness, at Scale
To support Foot Anstey’s initiative, our Director and Cyber Security speaker, Ryan Pullen, delivered a one-hour User Awareness Workshop to over 250 over their team, focused on improving resilience to common cyber threats.
The session explored the evolving nature of cyber security, emphasising the concept of an “infinite game,” where businesses must continuously adapt to keep pace with emerging cyber risks.
Designed to be both practical and engaging, the cyber security workshop provided participants with insights to help them better understand and respond to the challenges of today’s digital landscape.
Key cyber security topics covered, included:
1. Motivations Behind Cyber Attacks
- Understanding the diverse motivations behind cyber-crime, from financial gain to ideological and political agendas.
- Insights into the dark web, including the trade of stolen credentials and tools used by cyber criminals.
2. Social Engineering & Targeted Research
- Real-world examples of social engineering techniques used to manipulate individuals into exposing sensitive information.
- How attackers use targeted research to craft spear-phishing emails tailored to specific industries, including law firms.
3. Artificial Intelligence in Cyber Security
- Exploring how artificial intelligence is weaponised by attackers to refine their tactics and enhance deepfake technologies.
4. Lessons from a Real-World Ransomware Attack
- Exploration of a real-world ransomware attack, including key learnings from an expert in the field.
5. Cyber Hygiene
- Essential tips for improving digital security:
- Recognising social-engineering tactics.
- Understanding social media vulnerabilities.
- Password best practice, like MFA.
6. Interactive Q&A with a Cyber Security Expert
- The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to engage directly with Ryan, and gain insights into their specific concerns.
Key Results: A highly engaged team
Improved Awareness: Employees left the session with a deeper understanding of the dangers posed by phishing, ransomware, and social engineering. The session equipped them with the confidence to identify and mitigate cyber threats effectively.
Increased Engagement: The session saw unprecedented levels of participation, with Foot Anstey reporting the highest number of sign-ups ever for a company-wide training. During the session, attendees asked a record number of questions, demonstrating heightened interest and engagement with the material.
